About This Offer
Recorded on Allégresse, "Journey Home" is a unique mix of things. Rhythmically it's flamenco-flavored – the rhythms playing with different groupings of 2 and 3 in a 12/8 meter using a flamenco rhythm called Bulería. Harmonically, I guess I would say the piece is very "northern hemisphere," whatever that might mean. The solo sections are each unique from one another, and the piece has a lot of powerful brass and full ensemble playing. This is a piece that's a lot harder to play than it looks.
For this offer, I've created a streamed video where I talk about my writing of this piece. I also included two audio interviews with both Ben Monder and Frank Kimbrough speaking on their playing perspective of this piece. And, one day going through boxes of scores and papers, I found a couple of old sketches that I immediately recognized as "Journey Home," and so I've made those available as well.
