About this project

A few years ago, I introduced the world-renowned saxophonist, Joe Lovano, to Peter Jensen and the instrument he created, the Mezzo Soprano Saxophone. The basis for this project began 10 years ago when Peter Jensen from I.K. Gottfried in Copenhagen, made a mezzo soprano saxophone, just for me. After I showed this astonishing, new instrument to Joe Lovano, he had to have Peter Jensen make him one as well.

Together, Joe and I have explored new territories with this wonderful and refreshing invention. It has been a dream come true to play with a world-renowned master of the instrument. We played our first concert with the mezzo saxophone together during Valby Summer Jazz in 2013. In 2015 we were joined by pianist, Kenny Werner, bassist Scott Colley, and Jonathan Blake in Copenhagen for two amazing concerts.

Throughout the project, you will have exclusive insight into the creative process behind the invention of this new instrument. You will also see how Joe Lovano and I crafted new music, improvisations, and performances to explore this new sound. As a participant, you will have access to the entire ArtistShare experience through interviews, photos, sketches of music, and videos.
