Oct 14 2015 - Artist Spotlight: Jeff Lorber

Jeff Lorber was born November 4th, 1952, in the same neighborhood as the Brecker Brothers. The Grammy-nominated keyboardist, composer, and producer is considered to be one of the trailblazers of jazz fusion - a genre that mixes the traditional jazz idiom with elements of rock, funk, and other electrified approaches (the Rhodes and various synthesizers became a part of his signature sound in the late 1970s).

He has recorded a dozen solo records including two Grammy Nominated albums for Best Instrumental Pop, Flipside (2005) and Hacienda (2013). This year, though he is known mostly for his groundbreaking combustion of jazz, funk, rock, and R & B, Jeff Lorber and long time collaborator, Chuck Loeb, created a burning traditional bebop record. BOP is a collection of nine classic jazz numbers, released on ArtistShare in 2015. The all-star band, featuring Randy Brecker, John Pattitucci, Rick Braun, Till Broenner, and more, delivers one of the best bebop performances recorded, reminiscent of jazz tradition with a contemporary twist.

All proceeds from this BOP go to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. Jeff and his family members have suffered from PKD; this project was his way of giving back to the organization that helped him.
