Recorded on The Thompson Fields, "The Monarch and the Milkweed" features trombone and flügel with those respective parts being played beautifully on the recording by Marshall Gilkes and Greg Gisbert. Unfortunately, the reed parts are quite heavy in the doubles. I will say that in my band, sometimes the second reed transposes the bass flute onto clarinet, and the fourth reed usually plays the clarinet part up the octave on tenor, both of which are acceptable.
This piece was written to include accordion, and so all of these things are rather limiting sadly, but if you can get past those things, this piece really soars with the right players. The opening of this piece has a fair amount of rubato, so the video that Maria created discussing the rehearsal of this piece will be helpful. There are many tools included here for your musicians' study and preparation of this piece, including various mixes for practice and study.
