ArtistShare® and Blue Note®: A Historic Partnership
This year, ArtistShare® announced a groundbreaking partnership with
Blue Note® Records, creating the new joint label: Blue
Note®/Artistshare®. The Blue Note®/ArtistShare® collaboration was forged by
Brian Camelio, Bruce Lundvall, and Don Was, President of Blue Note
Records. This new joint label provides an additional channel
for Blue Note to help nurture and promote up-and-coming young jazz
artists, while creating a platform that offers a unique opportunity for
fans to become directly involved with the creation of new music by
tomorrow's jazz stars. 2013 is a very special year: in addition to marking
ArtistShare®'s 10th Anniversary, it is Blue Note® Records' 75th Anniversary
and the birth year of the Blue Note®/ArtistShare® partnership. Fabian Almazan's upcoming CD Rhizome will be the first album released under the new Blue Note®/ArtistShare® label.

ArtistShare® Projects: Some Recent Highlights
Author
Dan Oullette teams up with Bruce Lundvall, CEO of Blue Note® Records, in
"Playing By Ear," a new ArtistShare®
project that features exclusive interviews and insights on Lundvall and
some of the most important artists of the last 40 years. This creates a
library so extensive and valuable that the Library Of Congress has
requested it become a part of their permanent collection after this
project is
complete. Lundvall has been responsible for signing a wide array of
artists, including Willie
Nelson, Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Dianne Reeves,
Richard Marx, Natalie Cole, Cassandra Wilson, Anita Baker, and Norah
Jones. In the words of Dave Koz, "Without Bruce Lundvall, there would be
a huge gap in the history of popular music."
Maria
Schneider
also recently launched her latest ArtistShare® project: "The Birth of a
New Work - Remembering Laurie Frink." This new, deeply meaningful
project celebrates the life of Laurie Frink, a wonderfully talented
trumpet player, amazingly gifted teacher, long-time bandmate and close
friend of Maria's. Through a
series of videos and compositional sketches, Maria will share her
creative process with her fans as she composes a new work in honor of
Laurie's life, music, and art.
Ryan Truesdell,
who recently received a GRAMMY for his fan-funded ArtistShare® album Centennial: Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans, will be kicking off
the "Gil Evans Scores & Parts Project." Through this project,
participants will learn how to make Gil Evans' music "come alive" and
will be able to obtain previously unreleased, "lost" scores and parts,
along with compositional insight, video footage, and exclusive access to
the creative process behind the music.
