"The Playgrounds Orchestra was formed in 1997 in Montreal. The instrumental combination of strings and a jazz sextet reflects my concept to weave together jazz and classical traditions into one fabric. The work Finding the River, which premiered at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2001, is an intense collage of Steve Reich minimalism, soaring Wagnarian melodies and funk.

The ensemble consists of myself -tenor and soprano saxophones, Aron Doyle -trumpet, Christine Jensen -alto Saxophone, John Sadowy -piano, Tommy Babin -bass, Thom Gossage -drums and a 9 piece string section led by cellist James Darling."
