This piece is the second part of 'Three Romances,' a suite commissioned by the University of Miami. I've recorded it on 'Concert in the Garden' and the University of Miami recorded it on their recording called 'Romances.' 'Pas de Deux' requires a good fluegel soloist, and a good soprano soloist. It's tricky in that the soloists play in and out of one another, essentially trying to compose one unified statement. That's the biggest challenge in this piece aside from the pacing in the rhythm section and ensemble. That requires a certain level of maturity from the group as well. This piece can be played on its own. It doesn't have to always be part of the suite.
I've been interviewing the members of my band about their individual approaches to performing my music which are being streamed for you in your account in 'media shows.'
