This was commissioned by the University of Miami, and my orchestra recorded it on our recent release, 'Concert in the Garden.' Miami's group also has recorded the suite. Choro is the 1st part of 'Three Romances,' but I ofen perform it as a single piece too. You will want to be sure that you have one alto player that is a pretty good flute player, and one that's a pretty good clarinet player. These parts aren't for people who dabble in doubling. You can always call in a ringer. Some flute players are looking for a chance to play something challenging in a jazz orchestra. Solos are in the tenor and the piano.
I've been interviewing the members of my band about their individual approaches to performing my music. These interviews are being streamed for you in your account in 'media shows.' Additionally, I will soon be recording myself talking about how I rehearse each of these pieces. I will let you know the potential tripping spots and the way to make each piece come alive. We will be conducting more and more interviews over time.
