Cerulean Skies was commissioned by the New Crowned Hope Festival, Vienna, Austria, and received its world premiere at the Wiener Konzerthaus on December 1, 2006. Recorded on Sky Blue (2007), it's an extensive piece that requires quite an experienced band. But with the help of the recording and some of the aids we're offering here, it's all doable. Firstly, I will include interviews with all of the soloists and you'll receive mp3 versions of the piece without solos for your students to practice with. This can be helpful for your rhythm section as well as the soloists. We're also including a version without drums for your drummer to practice with. It will also be of assistance to your ensemble to listen to the horns without drums for balance and nuance. One element that is really quite necessary for the performance of the piece is the accordion. I'll also include information of where to find some lovely bird calls.
