The Clayton Brothers

The Clayton Brothers - Brother to Brother

ArtistShare is very pleased to announce the launch of  The Clayton Brothers - Brother to Brother project!

"Brother to Brother is actually a brilliant brainstorm of Jeff, my brother. Believe me, it's really hard to admit that your brother can come up with an idea you like. His idea was to find songs composed by and/or performed by some of the many brother groups in jazz (and yes, we're looking at researching our fabulous sisters and extended family members in the future!). We take those songs, rearrange them so they have a Clayton Brothers spin to them and make them our own. We also did a lot of composing, writing songs that were influenced by these brother combinations."

ArtistShare
The official Ron Carter biography is currently coming to life on ArtistShare. Here is an update from author Dan Ouellette.

To give you an inside view on the life of a biographer, much of my subject matter comes direct from the source: Ron Carter. We meet frequently (average = once a month) at his apartment. I set up my two recording devices (two, just in case one malfunctions.which I know all too well from experience) at his dining table between his kitchen and living room/listening room, and I fire away with questions on various topics for about an hour.

As most of you know, Ron's history is expansive, so I've been trying to capture all the various "chapters" of his career: his youth, his classical aspirations at Eastman School of Music, early days in New York, his stint with Miles Davis, his teaching days, his life at CTI and Milestone, and right up to his present where he is as adventurous and forward-seeking as in any other time in his career.

So, I rack my brain and try to come up with as many questions as I possibly can to unearth the entirety of Ron's life.

But there's an entirely other font of great information: all the interviews, articles, reviews that have been written about Ron. I've tracked a lot down, including from DownBeat (thanks to my editors there), from Terri Hinte when she was still working for Fantasy Records which owned Milestone, and from Ron himself. He's always coming up with another batch of writings, European and Japanese concert bills, and press clippings galore, including several binders put together by his professorial colleague Barbara Hanning at City College in New York and one big box he unloaded that his mother had. She's still alive.97.but recently moved from one senior care center in southern California to another, hence the package mailed by Ron's sister, Geneva.

So, my ongoing challenge.read through it ALL and earmark what information goes in what chapter folder. Wow!

Paul Devlin
Five time Emmy-Award winner and Independent Spirit Award nominee Paul Devlin follows up his acclaimed films SLAMNATION & POWER TRIP with an ArtistShare project that exposes a world of risky, hardcore scientific adventure. He invites you to join him in the making of his new movie, BLAST.

The story of BLAST is one that seeks to answer the complex question: How did we get here? It’s a question we’ve been asking since the birth of human consciousness. How did we come to be on a planet, twirling round a star called the sun, in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, somewhere out in a remarkable universe?

BLAST is the story of why we keep pushing forward – a story of how faith turns into science, and how science sometimes runs on faith. This is a story about people doing whatever it takes to overcome the randomness of life on earth to explore the order of the cosmos, even if that means dangling a multimillion dollar telescope from a balloon and sending it flying across the Arctic.
