About this project
Established 50 years ago by Whit Sidener, the University of Miami Frost Concert Jazz Band has been a fertile ground for artistic development and prolific musical exploration. Playing in the band has been an inspiration and rite of passage for many successful Frost alumni. After more than 40 years of directing the band, Whit passes the torch to trumpeter/composer/conductor John Daversa to continue the band's growth and innovation.
John Daversa and the Frost Concert Jazz Band’s newest Project introduces new Bulgarian and Scandinavian musical influences to large ensemble jazz and includes a new piece from Daversa, commissioned by American Foundation of Bulgaria.
Within the University setting, faculty and students collaborate freely to pursue new creative projects, focusing purely on artistic excellence. The Frost Concert Jazz Band’s new recording features students performing alongside Svet Stoyanov, Frost’s Director of Percussion, and includes compositions from faculty members John Daversa and Errol Rackipov. The Frost School of Music is a haven for true musical grown and exploration, pushing the needle of large ensemble improvisatory music as the world follows along.
Welcome to the Europa project.
Participants will have the opportunity to sponsor master classes, dive deeply into the music as a Musician participant and receive direct access to the Europa: Explorations for Jazz Ensemble recording. All participants will also receive direct access to the creative process through videos, audio clips, photo galleries, downloads, and more.
Thank you for joining us on this exciting creative journey and for supporting the continued exploration of new music.
