Jan 10 2013 - Newport Jazz Festival Project Update | A Message From George Wein

Newport Project Update

You can hear an exclusive preview of "I'm In Love Again," a song from the Newport Jazz Festival® Gala CD featuring vocalist Dianne Reeves and pianist Peter Martin below:

Happy New Year! As we begin 2013, we are in the process of mixing and mastering the live recordings we made at the Newport Jazz Festival® Gala. This is the very first project in our new partnership with the Newport Jazz Festival®. We are very excited about the progress we are making on this historic live album, which features jazz legends Dianne Reeves and Peter Martin, Bill Frisell, Lionel Loueke, Jason Moran, Ingrid Jensen, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Anat Cohen, Edmar Castaneda, Lewis Nash, and Steve Wilson.

There is still time to participate in the Newport Jazz Festival ArtistShare® Project at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, but we will be closing these offers in the next few weeks as we create the artwork and finalize the credit listings for the album, so join us and participate today. Your tax-deductible contribution to the Newport Jazz Festival ArtistShare® Project will not only allow us to commission original compositions from worthy artists, which will be featured at future Newport Jazz Festivals, but you will also be supporting the release of the very first live CD recorded at the Newport Festivals Foundation® Gala. We look forward to your joining us in this historic project. You can view our full list of Participant Offers and select the offer which suits you best today.

We would like to thank all of our participants, especially Executive Producer Participant Kenneth Kitchings and Bronze Participants Kaname Ueno, Kenneth Sassower, Paul Israel, Hiroshi Arai, Peter Payne, Robert Shepherd, Paul Kaleta, William Hamilton, Ralph Krumins, Allyson Randolph, and Dan Ventura for their generous support of this project.

A Message From George Wein:

“At the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival®, Maria Schneider debuted an original work which she composed for her appearance at Newport. It was especially meaningful, as she dedicated the piece to me.

Maria funded this work through her own ArtistShare® program, but our presentation of her at Newport was made possible by our non-profit status and the many donations we receive from our board members and supporters.

Your donation to the Newport Jazz Festival ArtistShare® projects will help make these kinds of unique performances and commissions possible.”

-George Wein

ArtistShare® Partners with the Newport Jazz Festival®

We are very pleased to announce our new partnership with the legendary producer and founder of both the Newport Jazz Festival® and the Newport Folk Festival®, George Wein. The Newport Jazz Festival® is the most celebrated jazz festival in the world. It has become a model for nearly every other music festival since its inception in 1954. The Newport Jazz Festival® respects and honors the jazz tradition, serves as a place where the legends pass the torch to younger musicians to perpetuate the art form, and presents the greatest jazz performers in the world following the traditions of New Orleans, swing, bebop and modal music. Through our partnership, the historic Newport Jazz Festival® will be able to take advantage of the fan-funded business model to sustain itself for future generations.
