Mellow Drama is an OLD one! It's an original ballad from the 1960 album, Portrait of the Artist. It's another through-composed piece, though it does "feature" the piano. I wrote it for a smaller band instrumentation, made up of some of the greatest studio musicians of the time:
Gene Quill - alto sax/clarinet Danny Bank - bass clarinet/alto flute Ernie Royal, Nick Travis - trumpets John Barrows - french horn Frank Rehak - slide trombone Bill Barber - tuba Bob Brookmeyer - piano George Duvivier - bass Charlie Persip - drums
Thankfully, it is still in print and on CD. It is paired up with a Jimmy Giuffre album that I played on too. You can find it on Amazon (sometimes offered as used for cheap). To purchase the ablum from Amazon, CLICK HERE.
